All this “sheltering at home” was begging us to shelter away to a local destination for our anniversary. And that’s just what we did!
A getaway transcended us from the hustle of everyday, to a small apartment in Fayetteville, AR.
As a university town, (population 86k), the town was eerily quiet. Former visits here included pushing through droves of loud and inebriated crowds...which we enjoy, simply for the people watching!
This visit (during COVID), presented a better idea.
A cozy apartment, 6 floors high, on the popular Dickson street perched us overlooking George’s Majestic Lounge. Live music played in the courtyard and small rocking chairs on our balcony provided the sway.
We visited an urban farm and picked up a prepared, farm-to-table basket; filled with a bottle of wine, savory aromas, hand-crafted sauces, a smoked hen, winter squash, apple dumplings and Spanish coffee. A 4-course meal from not-for-profit, Apple Seeds Inc.
Our past experience with this organization, who’s mission is to grow and donate fresh food to food-insecure children, served us an exceptional culinary experience. A color-coded adventure was bundled up in this basket fundraiser and the meal will go down in history as one of my favorites of 2020.
The small apartment was perfectly appointed with all the necessary comforts and we chose this one because
1) it’s adorable...and
2) we needed an oven to dance our smoked hen into the roaster. (That would be a wine induced dance.💃)
All the little “niceties” of this vacation rental were perfect. From the granite countertops, inviting colors, large windows and the designer friendly comfort of furniture, bed and pillows - we would cozy up here again!
As we closed the door of this vacation rental we looked at each other and said “that was the perfect anniversary getaway”. Biking area trails provided entertainment for the remainder of the day. We were fortunate to gift each other updated mountain bikes.
